The Tragic Convergence of Race, Mental Health, and Violence

In the small, utopian suburb of Kirkwood, Missouri, resident Charles "Cookie" Thornton attended a City Council meeting one night and murdered six city council members, before being apprehended and killed by police on the scene. Through interviews with survivors of the shooting as well as Thornton's ex-wife and daughter, the piece sorts through the dynamics simmering beneath the surface of this tragedy.

The Saga of Senate Bill 5

An exploration of how a well-intended, post-Ferguson legislative bill exposed the many fault lines of St. Louis County, which have contributed to segregation in the city and socioeconomic disparity. Interviews with researchers, political scientists, the politician who fought to move the bill forward and a mayor who is ardently against it, and the bill's ultimate fate.
